We put Kokos in Beer 🍺
When Brothers Beer set out to brew their first-ever chocolate stout, they needed worthy cacao. They came to us!
The beer was Velvet Love Potion, a creamy, 6.9% winter stout built on chocolate malt, oats and wheat, with cacao nibs and vanilla folded in. Brothers Beer is one of Auckland's best-known craft breweries, with a tap room on the city fringe in Mt Eden. Head brewer Brandon Nash said it was the first time they'd ever brewed a chocolate stout.
In a guided tasting filmed for the launch in June 2022, Brandon raised a glass and the brewery gave a "huge shout out to @auntytommys for the best cacao in town." For a koko brand barely off the ground, having an established brewery choose our Pacific cacao for a milestone brew was awesome.
It's also the point we keep coming back to: Koko Samoa isn't only for the cup at home. In the right hands it becomes other things — a stout, a dessert, a new way for people to taste the Pacific. We're proud our cacao helped pour Brothers first stout beer.
